As the global leader in High Emissivity Coatings (HECs), our Emisshield team remains committed to pushing the boundaries through extensive research and testing. In a joint effort with the National Brick Research Center (NBRC) at Clemson University , our most recent study is a testament to this commitment.

Here, we applied Emisshield to a radiant surface area of 155 square feet in a batch kiln, comparing the results to the same uncoated batch kiln.
The results were immediately apparent in the firing cycle. The coated pilot kiln not only demonstrated a 4.74% faster heat-up time, but also required 1.4% less fuel usage for the same brick load as the uncoated batch kiln.

Pilot tests tend to always underpredict full-scale performance in the field for HECs by as much as 50% due to their size limitations. Some results of the pilot test indicated the heat penetrated deeper into the brick load of the coated pilot kiln, increasing load temperature uniformity by 24%. Measured and compared results observed a 1.8% reduction in heat loss for the coated pilot kiln and a 4.7% increase in the internal load temperature.
A paper will be presented at the National Brick Forum from September 30th through October 1st, 2024, by our North American Distributor, Chase Nedrow Industries.
